1. PRO V1x LEFT DASH BEGAN AS A TITLEIST CPO
Titleist Pro V1x Left Dash started as a CPO model (Custom Performance Option) on the PGA Tour. CPOs are Titleist golf ball models designed by their R&D team to offer specific performance enhancements compared to Pro V1 and Pro V1x. The majority of PGA Tour players fit into Pro V1 and Pro V1x.
“CPO models are designed to fit players with very distinct needs and preferences,” said Fordie Pitts, Titleist’s Tour Consultant for Golf Ball R&D. “They might launch in a slightly different window to fit a player’s eye, offer slightly more or less spin, or feel softer or firmer. CPOs give us more tools in the toolbox to optimize and personalize performance for players we work with on tour.”
Since Pro V1x Left Dash was released, an estimated 5% of models played on tour were Pro V1x Left Dash.
2. LEFT DASH IS TITLEIST’S LOWEST SPINNING PRO V1 MODEL
Pro V1x Left Dash is for players looking for less spin on all shots. Its flight characteristics are similar to Pro V1x (high flight), with high compression and a firmer feel. Titleist R&D initially suspected that Left Dash would suit a small segment of aggressive, fast-swinging players who impart high spin on all shots tee-to-green. Still, they discovered something different in early prototype testing. Many players saw gains in ball speed and driving distance.
In the iron game, players were still able to hold greens effectively with mid and long-iron approach shots because of its steep angle of descent. R&D had anticipated the firmer feel and lower spin of Left Dash may not be preferred by golfers, but a large percentage of the players who tested the ball commented that Left Dash still felt responsive. It provided a very manageable spin and control in the short game.
